Balaganjur is one of Gamelan music in Bali. Balanganjur closest like Marchingband. Name of Balaganjur made by two word, there are "Bala" and "Ganjur". "Bala" means warrior and "Ganjur" means walk. So literally Balaganjur means Walking Warrior.
Gamelan beleganjur is essential to the Hindu religious ceremonies of Bali. Like Ngaben, Melasti, Ogoh-ogoh, and other religion activity.
There are instrumental of Balaganjur:
- One "great gong": gong ageng
A second gong ageng, forming a male/female pair of gongs,
- One secondary gong, with sunken boss instead of the usual raised one: bendé,
- Some pairs of cymbals: (ceng-ceng)
- Two differently tuned drums, considered male and female: kendang
- One small hand-held gong that acts as a metronome: kempli,
- A medium-sized gong: kempur,
- Two tuned hand-held metal pot-gongs: ponggang,
- Four similar but higher-pitched pot-gongs: reyong
In this present, Balaganjur is one of favorit traditional music in Bali especially for youth. Because Balaganjur can explore their creative and Balaganjur can show youth identity like dynamic. And now, lot of Balaganjur competition in each regional.
